The inspiration behind the creation of this rug for Alexandra came from natural motifs, graphic elements, and the silent magic of the production process—where every detail finds its place and meaning.
The sketching began with a black gel pen on tracing paper—initially imagined as a piece that would hang on a white wall like an asymmetrical art object. Later, a complex palette of colored pencils was added to the drawing.
Using a collage approach, Alexandra combined several fragments into a single composition—disparate sketches came together to form a unified image.
The designer immersed herself deeply in the rug-making process: carefully selecting colors, yarn composition, knotting and shearing techniques. Wool brings a sense of warmth to the piece, while various hand-knotted techniques create a rich texture. Eucalyptus adds a silky feel and a muted sheen—inviting the viewer to explore the rug from different angles and follow the transitions from dark to light. The varying pile heights set a rhythm and guide the gaze, making the rug especially tactile and full of life

Aleksandra Volskaya is a visionary conceptualist. She works as an interior designer and creator of objects that accompany and enrich human life.
Born in Moscow, she studied architecture and design before developing her creative practice while living in Tokyo, Paris, Milan, and New York. This international experience laid the foundation for her professional approach — creating objects that speak to the inner world through harmony and structure.
In 2023, Aleksandra launched her first capsule clothing collection and won the Art de Vivre competition in the “Best Carpet Design” category, which led to the production of a rug based on her original sketches.
Her work consistently explores the dialogue between materiality and meaning. Through design, she creates imagery capable of evoking emotional response and offering new ways of sensory perception. Aleksandra continues to explore the world, seeking ways to express subtle states and meanings through form, material, and composition.
The designer immersed herself deeply in the process of creating the rug: carefully selecting the color palette, the composition of the yarns, as well as the techniques for weaving and shearing. Wool brings a sense of warmth to the piece, while a variety of hand-tied knots create a rich, textured surface.
